Engagement
The traditional engagement, often called Nischitartham or Nichayathartham, is a sacred ceremony that formally unites two families. It begins with a Ganesh Puja to remove obstacles, followed by the reading of the Lagnapatrika, which officially announces the wedding date and time (Muhurtham) determined by the family priests. A central ritual is the exchange of Thamboolam, where plates of betel leaves, nuts, fruits, and clothes are traded between the families as a symbol of mutual agreement and respect. The couple then exchanges rings, signifying their commitment to one another. Mothers and elders often bless the bride and groom by applying Turmeric and Vermilion (Tilakam) and offering gifts of jewelry or silk. The event is a beautiful blend of Vedic chanting and joyous celebration, concluding with a grand feast where relatives bond and celebrate the upcoming union. It’s the first official step on the journey toward a lifetime together.

Marriage
A traditional wedding is a vibrant, multi-day celebration rooted in sacred rituals and family bonding. The journey begins with pre-wedding ceremonies like the Pellikuthuru or Nalangu, where the couple is adorned with turmeric and oil amidst songs and laughter. On the wedding day, the atmosphere is filled with the soul-stirring notes of the Nadaswaram during the Gauri Puja and the lighthearted Kashi Yatra. The most spiritual moments occur at the mandap, specifically during the Jeelakarra Bellam and the Kanyadaanam, where the bride's parents formally entrust her to the groom. This culminates in the Mangalya Dharanam, where the sacred thread is tied, followed by the playful Talambralu shower of rice. Finally, the Saptapadi—seven steps around the holy fire—seals the couple's vows of lifelong companionship and mutual respect. It is a beautiful blend of ancient customs, emotional transitions, and joyful celebration
